My breakfast
Antigua
After checking out of our hotel we boarded the Marvi (our bus) to Antigua. The oldest church in the Americas was founded here by Cortés in the early 16th century.
Mango Tree
After check in & some lunch we visited Xalapas’s Anthropology Museum. The Olmec were the first major civilization in Mexico. Seven out of ten Olmec "colossal heads" that were found in San Lorenzo, Tenochtitlán, which is located in the southeast portion of the Mexican state of Veracruz are displayed in this museum.
In the evening we went to downtown Xalapa to an area with lots of restaurants and shops. We witnessed a peaceful protest outside the capital building. Many Mexicans were unable to vote in last week’s election because the country “ran out of ballots.” Many Mexicans are unhappy with the government’s actions and many disappointed with Enrique Pena Nieto’s win as president.
You got to see the Olmec Stone Heads!!! I taught the kiddies about them this year. Put some of these photos on the side so I can use them As primary source documents.
ReplyDeleteBtw your photos are pretty amazing...do you have a hidden photography talent???
You can have copies of all my stone head pics! Thanks for the compliment! I've decided I want to take a photography class when I get back!
